Two Must Have PlugIns

There are hundreds of plugins created especially for WP blogs. These plugins are there to help you give more strength to your blog. Some are eminently made for increasing your search engines result. If they are not already installed on your blog(s), it is recommended that you act right away.

The first plugin is ‘CBNET Ping Optimizer‘: Saves your wordpress blog from getting tagged as ping spammer. If you do multiple updates and click the save button after each update, search engines might believe you are a spammer. With this plugin, you are protected.

Go to plugins/add new and type CBNET Ping Optimizer and click the search button. Install and activate it. To verify if the installation was successful, go to ‘settings’ CBNET Ping Optimizer should be there.

Second one ‘Google XML Sitemap with Multisite support‘ : This plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com to better index your blog. It will also index all subsequent posts faster (sometimes, the same day as the update).

Same as earlier, go to ‘plugins/add new’ and type ”Google XML Sitemap with multisite support”, install and activate. Next, go to ‘settings/Google XML Sitemaps with Multisite support’, click it.

You will have to make a few changes before you ‘build manually’ the site map. In the XML sitemap, scroll down till ”Post Priority” and make sure the selected radio button is the first one (do not use automatic prioritycalculation).

Scroll down to the next window: Location of your sitemap file. Make sure the ‘automatic detection’ radio button is selected. Verify if your ”detected URL” is http://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.

Go to Exclude items and enter the number of the main post or main page. This is the post or the page that loads when you type your domain name. To find the number of your page, go to post or page and move your mouse over the name without clicking it.

In the left bottom side of your browser, you will see the URL. Near the end, there is a number. Enter that number in the Exclude items area.

The two last changes to make are 1- in the ‘Change frequencies’ area, change to monthly ”static pages”. And 2-, in ‘properties’ change ”minimum post priority” to ’0.2′. Click save changes and your done.

Now, you go back to the top and build manually the sitemap if not done already. Once it is built, you should see the date it was built. In your case, today.
